Morro do Cruzeiro asks for a different pace from the basilica. Fourteen stations lead uphill through the Passion of Christ toward the cross. Come for the Via Sacra, especially in Lent and Holy Week, and let the pauses matter more than reaching the top.
A hill shaped for the Way of the Cross.
A first cross was raised here in 1925, and chapels followed in 1948. The present devotional landscape includes fourteen stations by Adélio Sarro and the great steel cross designed by Cláudio Pastro. The sanctuary’s account places the hill within Aparecida’s Lenten and Holy Week prayer, rather than treating the summit simply as an overlook.
The ascent alternates walking with the fixed scenes of the stations. Above the town, Pastro’s cross gives the hillside its clear destination. The view back to the sanctuary helps locate the basilicas in the wider landscape, but the Passion remains the purpose of the path.
