Cross the Passarela and enter the church that received Aparecida’s growing pilgrimage before the National Shrine. Its smaller nave returns the devotion to a scale where an altar, a painted ceiling, and a few minutes of quiet can hold your attention. The original image is now in the National Shrine; this church preserves its earlier public home.

The first sanctuary opened on this hill in 1745, after local devotion had grown beyond the fishermen’s households and public oratory. Nineteenth-century rebuilding produced the church inaugurated in 1888. Redemptorists arrived in Aparecida in 1894, and Pope Pius X granted the minor-basilica title in 1908, followed by solemn consecration in 1909. The building carries the continuity between the river devotion and the national sanctuary across the bridge.
