Keep it properly: the sea or the carrying, the Passion liturgy, as much of the night as you can. Do not add a second town. Holy Thursday and the Vigil will be missing, and you should know that.

Three days of Holy Week in a Catholic town that still knows how to keep them: before Our Lady at Kapela Tuan Ma, before Christ at Kapela Tuan Ana, and at the cathedral that bears Mary's title Reinha Rosari.

What this guide leaves out, on purpose
- The rest of Catholic Flores. The 2024 Church-partnered travel pattern names dozens of churches, chapels, and grottoes across the island. They are a future geography. This guide is Larantuka's Holy Week only.
- Wureh and Adonara. Related images and chapels across the strait belong to the same Catholic world. They cannot be added to these three days without breaking them.
- An ordinary-time visit. If you are not here in Holy Week, use the Larantuka hub. The chapels may be closed. The geography still reads. This guide does not pretend otherwise.
Day 1
Holy Thursday: the chapels open
Begin where the town begins its public Holy Week: before Our Lady, before her Son, then at the cathedral for the Mass of the Lord's Supper.
- Give the veneration its time. If you treat cium Tuan as a queue to be optimized, you have already left the pilgrimage.
- Walk. Kapela Tuan Ma, Kapela Tuan Ana, and the cathedral are a waterfront, not a driving circuit.

Walk the shore toward Pohon Sirih. The distance is short. Let it be a procession of two rather than a dash.

When the chapel is opened, according to the year's calendar
Kapela Tuan Ma
Plan on as long as the veneration requires
This is the first prayer of the pilgrimage, not a warm-up. Tuan Ma is Our Lady. When the doors open, Catholics come to kneel and to venerate the image. Local custom gives the first veneration to the descendants of the kings of Larantuka, then to the Confreria, then to the pilgrims. Take your place in that order. You are not inspecting a statue. You are praying before the Mother of God as this Church has learned to keep her.

Walk to the cathedral for the Mass of the Lord's Supper. If the chapel hours and the Mass conflict, the Eucharist has the claim. Return to the chapels after.

Kapela Tuan Ana
Plan on as long as the veneration requires
Holy Week here is not a Marian devotion with Christ mentioned later. Tuan Ana is Our Lord, kept on the main road, opposite the Mater Dolorosa garden. Pray here as you prayed at Tuan Ma. Look across to the Pieta. Mother and Son are already in the street before tomorrow's processions begin.

The chapels keep the images. The cathedral keeps the liturgy. Holy Thursday is the Mass of the Lord's Supper, the washing of feet, the altar stripped, the watch. St. John Paul II named this town's Marian life from Maumere. He did not replace the parish Eucharist with a procession. Stay for the Mass. If there is adoration afterward, stay if you can. The rest of the triduum is unintelligible without tonight.

If the day runs short: If you arrive late, go to Mass anyway. Do not spend the evening hunting photographs of the chapels.
Day 2
Good Friday: the sea, the images, the night
Follow Christ through the town: the sea procession of Tuan Meninu, the carrying of Tuan Ma and Tuan Ana, the liturgy of the Death of the Lord, the night procession.
- Wear black if the town does. Walk. Do not treat the day as a sequence of viewpoints.
- The waterfront, the cathedral, the processional streets. You will stand more than you will cover ground.

Kapela Tuan Ma
Plan on most of the middle of the day
The sea procession of Tuan Meninu is not a tourist extra. It is how this Church uses the strait on Good Friday: the Christ Child image accompanied by boats toward Pante Kuce. Watch from the shore unless the local Church has given you a place. Then Tuan Ma and Tuan Ana are carried toward the cathedral. This is the town following the Passion. Walk in it if you are invited by custom. Do not run alongside it for a better frame.

Good Friday custom in Larantuka includes black clothing. Follow it.
If the day runs short: If you can keep only one public act besides the liturgy, keep the carrying of Tuan Ma and Tuan Ana.

Plan on afternoon liturgy and the night procession
The Celebration of the Passion of the Lord is still the Church's Good Friday, even in a town with processions. Keep it. In the evening Larantuka processes. Lamentations, the armida along the way, the long circuit of the town: this is Sesta Vera as the local Church keeps it. Stay to the end if you can. The point is not to have seen the images. The point is to have watched with them.
Give your time to the liturgy of the Passion, then the night as a watch
If the day runs short: If you cannot keep the whole night, keep the liturgy and the beginning of the procession. Do not keep only the photographs.
Eat simply. Keep the fast as you are able. The town has been in mourning all day.
Day 3
Holy Saturday: the images go home, the Vigil
Take Tuan Ma and Tuan Ana home in the morning. Keep the Easter Vigil at night. Do not leave at noon as if the triduum were over.
- The morning processions look like an ending. They are a return, not a conclusion. The Vigil is the feast.

Plan on morning return, then the Vigil
On Holy Saturday morning the images are taken back to their chapels. Pilgrims may still venerate them. Then the Confreria keeps kesumi, the placing of the images home. That is custody, and it is love. Stay if you are welcome. Do not treat it as backstage. At night the Easter Vigil is the Church's own explosion of the tomb. Keep it in this cathedral if you can. Alleluia belongs here after the black of yesterday, not at an airport.

A last prayer before Our Lady in her own house, once she has been brought home. Only if the chapel is open and you will not be in the way of kesumi.

The Vigil is the night. After it, the town is in Easter. Keep the joy without making it loud in a small street.

If you are here with children
Holy Thursday veneration and the Vigil will be enough for many families. Good Friday night is long, crowded, and dark. Do not make children perform a piety they cannot keep.

Do not use this guide. Use the Larantuka hub. Walk the cathedral and the two chapels. Pray at whatever door is open. The images may be hidden. The town is still itself.
