In Faversham, the Carmelite friars have made a modest yet enduring home for devotion to Saint Jude. Pilgrims pass through the parish church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel into the shrine and bring their petitions before the Apostle. A Carmelite shrine in Kent
Father Elias Lynch founded the shrine in 1955 as the postwar generation sought hope and a place to pray. Its inner shrine holds a relic identified by the Carmelites as a bone fragment of Saint Jude. The relic is a focus for prayer, not an assurance of a miracle or a substitute for the Gospel witness of the Apostle.
